Step Behind the Bookcase

There’s an undeniable sense of intrigue at Room 33
Speakeasy, beginning with the entrance itself. Tucked behind a hidden bookcase at 1033 State Street, the restaurant invites guests into an atmosphere inspired by the glamour and mystique of the Prohibition era.

The name is a nod to 1933—the year Prohibition came to an end—and Room 33 embraces that history with an experience that feels both nostalgic and decidedly current. Handcrafted cocktails take center stage at the bar, while an elevated dinner menu gives guests plenty of reason to linger well beyond the first drink.

Owners Shawn and Lizzy McCall have continued to build on Room 33’s distinctive character, creating a destination where dinner, cocktails and entertainment come together. Live music adds to the energy, while the intimate surroundings make an evening here feel just a little removed from the ordinary.

Whether settling in for dinner, meeting friends for cocktails or discovering what’s waiting beyond the bookcase for the first time, Room 33 offers something increasingly rare – a night out that feels like an experience!
